Title: Should you get another Shadowling teammate?
Post by: Duskling on March 27, 2010, 10:24:57 PM
I know this is similar to the "Shadowling Healer Teammate" thread by im2smart4u, but I mean another Shadowling in general. Also, it may be a bit of overkill after you get Malis, but what the hey, Telepath RPG Chapter 2 had three (or possibly four, depending on your choices) Shadowlings, so one more can't hurt, can it? So, what say you, members of the Sinister Design community, should or shouldn't there be another Shadowling teammate in Telepath RPG The Servants of God?

I would agree that there should be another Shadowling teamate, but it has to be something original/ not like Malis. Malis already covers most of the Shadowling aspects (high speed/shadow attacks). Instead why not have a Shadowling that uses new dark attacks. For example: In the new attacks thread we have discussed a shadow star which this Shadowling could have. What I am thinking though is that the character should be like a darkling (no defence attacks) and have higher speed then Malis. For the heck of it, we could call him Duskling.

His four attacks, I presume would be Mind Blast, Shadow Blast, Shadow Star, and Dark Vortex

Welcome to the forums, read the rules, play the game, use proper grammar and punctuation and enjoy your stay!

It would be nice to see more Shadowlings in general, to keep up with the TRPG2 feel, but a lot, I think, will depend on how much time Craig has for developing a new in-depth character for TSoG. I think the best shot is with the Shadowling Healer as a teammate: at least Craig said he might consider it. But I doubt more than one extra teammate can be introduced, given the speed at which the game is currently being developed.

Zackirus- Shadow Star isn't an attack in TSoG- it's only a mere proposition in the new enemies thread.

Well, it's best for reference it as an idea, rather than confusing people and passing it off as an actual in-game attack ;)

Anyhow, so far the vote is split 50:50.
By the way, Duskling, why wouldn't the shadowling healer be enough? After all, apart from Malis we most likely will also be getting a Red Spriggat onto the team, so there will already be 2, mabye 3 teammates who are completely non-human. (Plus there might be Gelf as well.)

The second shadowling, unless it is a healer, would be too similar to Malis.  The classes need variation.

I don't mean to say not to get a Shadowling healer teammate, in fact, that would bring more balance and is a great idea, but what I meant to do was not to get people coming onto this thread just to tell me to check the forums before opening a thread with the same topic. Also, the Hero and some Psy Fighters can both heal AND fight, so why not a Shadowling?

I think I might be answering my own question here, but I have just noticed that Shadowlings prefer to focus on one factor and be good at it and have backup with another vital skill, such as the team of Shadowlings in TRPG2 covering Tastidian consitsted of one or two healers as I can remember and some elite guards. I perfectly understand that I may have torn myself down just now, so I guess a Shadowling with both defensive and offensive powers is a no-no, but, then again, it doesn't have to be a regular Shadowling, seeing how every, or mostly every, teammate is special in their own way.

What I am thinking though is that the character should be like a darkling (no defence attacks) and have higher speed than Malis.

The idea is great, but there is a huge obstacle to that, if we had a Shadowling like this one, wouldn't that render Malis entirely obsolete and useless?

So when you say you want "another Shadowling teammate", do you mean the Shadowling Guardian class (http://telepath.wikia.com/wiki/Shadowling_Guardian_(Class))?
Or do you want another Psy Assassin (http://telepath.wikia.com/wiki/Psy_Assassin) like Malis?

The Shadowling Guardian would work, but your idea on the healer was a good one, we want to bring balance, if we add more troubles to the Creator's list, the game may never be finished. However, when I started this thread I hoped someone would bring this up, and yes, I did want a Guardian to be part of the team, that would be cool for players with the shadow affinity since they can also do the Dark Vortex attack.

Maybe there can also be friends or teammates with the same affinity as the Hero, such as the Shadowling Guardian (mentioned above), a Psy Fighter for the light affinity, or a Spriggat for either heat or cold affinities.

I think getting extra teammate on basis of affinity will be overcomplicating things.

There is also the part of making a lot of dialogue for each new teammate introduced, and that's a fine balance there- I think many would want to see another Shadowling on the team, but I think im2msart4u's proposal of a new healer is the most realistic one, as it doesn't clash that much with any of the other character's niches (Set has enough different attacks to be on par with a Shadowling Healer). After that, is rightly put above, any new Shadowling will have a purpose that overlaps with other teammate classes- I'd rather see Gelf ("beast master" class) than an extra 3rd Shadowling introduced - it would create more variety on and off the battlefield, methinks.

That is actually pretty funny, since there already is a Shadowling in Telepath Psy Arena 2 named Duskling, I made my username in hopes that there is no Shadowling with this name, but I just checked on the Telepath RPG wiki, and there is. *Spits* Should've named myself "Shadeling," no wait, that's taken too! :D

This poll isn't very good.  There is no middle ground and it doesn't allow one to change thier vote.

Well, it was from a while back, and it wasn't my best thread, my first, as a matter of fact, and I really did not expect someone to necropost it... especially mot you, im2smart4u, but I'll leave it open in case anyone wants to re-vote, the count has been reset and a "Maybe" option was added... enjoy, I guess.

That would have just been EPIC if a Shadow Guardian could join your team.
Do you agree?

I think you are looking for the Shadowling Guardian Teammate (http://sinisterdesign.net/forum/index.php?topic=286.0) topic.

No. We don't need more teammates than we can use. Adding it would be doing just that.

Bugfartboy, are you saying that you didn't enjoy having the ability to choose between multiple teammates in TRPG2?
Title: Re: Should you get another Shadowling teammate?

I enjoyed it, I just don't think we need another shadowling teammate just for the heck of it.

I don't think Criag would do anything in TSoG "for the heck of it."  Unlike TPA2, when a teammate is added to TSoG, we see new personalities and new stories.

I didn't enjoy the variety. It forced me to make a choice between many good teammates, and I simply had to ignore the rest.

Well guys I'm sorry to to say, but this discussion is now void. All the teammates have been chosen for TSoG. Their are no teammate spots left for anyone, so sadly, we won't have a Gelf or a Shadowling teammate.

Hero: Psy Fighter
Griffin: Swordsmen
Rahel: Marksmen
Set: Healer
Arman: Assassin
Luca: Spirit
Malis: Shadowling

[spoiler=Don't open this if you don't want to spoil the game]
Qudssi: Swordsmen
La'Man: Red Spriggat
Naj: White Spriggat
Rajav: (Suspected) Spearman

As you see by this: Only Rahel and Rajav are missing

Nah. I totally disagree that one more Shadowling teammate should be added. 2 reasons:
1. Too much variety - too much good teammates
2. This game's focus is not on Shadowlings - unlike TRPG2
