Title: Golden Spriggat
Post by: SmartyPants on February 13, 2010, 10:09:23 AM
The Spriggats have had 3 out of 4 the elemental affinities, so what about the fourth one.  The yellow Golden Spriggat could be the fourth elemental affinity.

Possible In-Game-Portraits:
(http://s2.postimage.org/MdKI9.png) (http://www.postimage.org/) or (http://s9.postimage.org/asdqkhya3/Golden_Spriggat.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

Possible bio:
The Golden Spriggats are the rarest of all of the Spriggats.  Every known Golden Spriggat has turned out female (not all females are Light).  Since females were rare and major targets of the Shadowling Queen, they were hidden and heavily guarded by Dissidents forces during the Shadow War.  When the Shadowling Civil War ended, the few, remaining Golden Spriggats emerged from hiding to be apart of the Shadowling Republic.  Even with the war over, Shadowling Loyalist have attempted to kill many of the Golden Spriggats, since they are seen as symbols of the end of Shadowling Empire.  The Golden Spriggat has power equal to, if not greater then, the Dark Spriggat.  They can create a large amount of electromagnetic radiation with a large, power Light Breath.

Nice summation of year-long discussion about Light Spriggats on the old forums, im2msart4u. The only really debatable moment is the one about not all demales being Light, but, methinks, it's not too important. In addendum, there is a proposed unit in the Formulated Enemy Ideas thread.
Personally, I agree with all of the prossible bio points up to the Republic era, after that it's less clear: I can see how, with time, they can emerge back into the society and not fear persecution from Shadowling Loyalists, but little is known on the subject matter at the moment.

All light spriggats being females would make a lot of sense. In the Shadow War, almost all the females were killed by the queen, and those that weren't hid. This would explain why no light spriggats appeared in Telepath RPG 2. Now that shadowlings and spriggats are equal, the light spriggats would be under the protection of the law, just like all the other spriggats.

I was trying to think of an idea to introduce the Light Spriggat into TSoG, while explaining their lack of appearance in TRPG2.

So you voted No and Hell No for what?

im2smart4u, just to keep the record straight, the idea of all female Light Spriggats was born long before you came about to the old froums, with same reasoning. ;)
Anyhow, on the old forums, the idea of having a Light Spriggat, at least in NPC form, found quite a lot of string support, so, hopefully, we'll see one in TSoG.

From the discussions, it does arise that Grotius' mother was, most likely, a Light Spriggat, which can also have interesting consequences if Grotius is to appear in TSoG.

Should the Light Spriggats be enemies like Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau?
Or should the Light Spriggats be non-enemy characters like the green shadowling, Lala?

Good point, but I think we'll have to see this in more general terms: will Spriggats overall be friendly or not towards the Hero and Co? I don't really see any reason for the Spriggats to act in an antagonistic manner towards the Hero and the teammates, although I'm sure there could be excpetions to the rule (e.g. the Hero accidently stumbling upon several Light Spriggats in a manner that makes them believe they're under attack, like in the old times, and they try to protect themselves). Or a a small clan of Spriggat highwaymen, with several Light Spriggats- again, why not (that does happen on occaison, and they're essentially one big family)?

It would be a little lame if new really powerful spriggats were introduced and no one ever saw them in combat. Maybe you could get a few of them to join your cause as soldiers.

The Shadowling Loyalists could make them slaves. They could have salvaged slave bracelets and managed to use them again (for another execption that would make a wee bit more sense).

The slave bracelet requires one's consent to put it on.  I don't see many spriggats agreeing to putting on slave bracelets.

Frost Spriggats are white.  Light Spriggats should be yellow.

I agree that they should be white with a symbol but it should be all over their bodies so its easier to tell

I also agree that they should be white. The sign could be a greek letter for example for a made sign.

I would prefer yellow, since white looks too much like frost spriggats.
Maybe the could glow.

yellow tis an ugly color, especially for something that's supposed to be so powerful. I white spriggat with a light golden touch to it's skin color would be nice.
Title: Re: Light Spriggat

Glowing: Ugly
White: Hard to differentiate from White Spriggats
Symbols: Incredibly ugly
Yellow: What's wrong with it?
Title: Re: Light Spriggat
Post by: Zhampir on March 13, 2010, 03:50:26 PM
since the Light Spriggats are supposedly completely comprised of women they should have an altered appearance all ready, perhaps they should look more humanoid, like an angel?

I was thinking about a less yellow spriggat, more like the image I posted in the old forums:

(Created by colouring yellow the blue parts of Grotius.)

For a woman, the picture of that spriggat looks to... manly.
other than that, I think the design is good. I agree that the wings shouldn't be yellow however, and should be more gold. I think we are in a general agreement that a golden coloration would be a good idea.

I think it would look better than yellow anyday, the drawings I'm seeing now are merly yellow which looks bad in my opinion. I am whoever still opting for a white and gold mix
Title: Re: Light Spriggat
Post by: KZ on March 14, 2010, 04:02:01 PM
I see the discussion has shifted towards what the Spriggat should look like, rather than should the Spriggat be included in the first place!
Well, I think the golden colour idea is neat, and I also think that the Spriggat drawing should be slightly different from the male spriggat- maybe more pointy wings, less broad head, smaller (or larger) body-size, etc.

Presentiment, im2smart4u: with regards to comments made about where credit is due, let's all be nicer and all. With credit, it's sheer politness to point out who had a birlliant idea, if it's lost in obscurity, but then it would be good to strike the golden middle by not shouting every time "this is my idea!"- after all, we're here trying to work as a community to provide Craig with ideas. And the nicer we're to each other, the more pleasant the atmosphere. ;)

I think we're all pretty much in agreement about the inclusion of the Light Spriggats, KZ. Tis the one thing that every body in the forum seems to agree on. I like the drawing of the light spriggat from Lethallaurie that Im2smart4u posted, except the smile seems too... evil. and the coloration is... still utilizing that disturbing color that you didn't like either. I like the idea of a white body with golden colored wings (especially if there are white on the back but golden on the inside.)

I think you're onto something with a Light Spriggat being in the parliament. Methinks that should be the place for them to be. Also, since female/Light spriggats were severely hunted during ad before the Shadow Wars, I'd say that if there is a museum dedicated to the history of Shadowlands, a Light Spriggat could be found there giving the tour, as one of the biggest victims of that era (not unlike holocaust talks by their survivals).
Like the overhwelming majority of forumers, I definitely would like to see a Light Spriggat in TSoG and, possibly, see one in a  battle situation.

Good, the idea of Light female Spriggats remains!
Given that almost 80% of forum users would like to see them, and the number being close to 40 persons, I hope Craig will consider this, as it is certainly one of the more popular ideas around, and has been for the last 2 years!

As for female Spriggat names- they don't have to be philosophers at all, as can be seen from the names of Spriggats in TPA2. They can be writers, warriros, etc.
I'd think of Marie Curie, so a Spriggat by the name of Cruie could do the trick.
Historically, we have Joan of Arc, quite a significant figure in her time. Thus, "Arc" or "D'Ark" would be a good name (and ironic one at that).
How about also famous healers? Florence Nightingale, I think, would be highly appropriate. Thus: Nightingale.

I agree with your suggestion to broden our search to names of all people who revolutionized new ways of thinking, but I don't particularly care for your three suggestions.

Hypatai is still my favoriate and Cartwright is a close second.

Fair enough, apart from "D'Ark" I don't quite see the names fitting, but they're good illustrative examples.

Don't like much Hypatai myself, but along those lines Cleopatra actually is something quite fitting, methinks.

(By the way, what's with the mis-spellings? "broden" "favoriate"? Only reason I point out is 'cause I rarely, if ever, get a feeling of you being rushed in your posts.)

Cleopatra always was depicted as a very beautiful person. Greek goddess Persephone aka Kore kidnapped by Hades to become his wife and rescued by Hermes due to Demeter's(Kore's mother) endless wailing it finally Convinced Zeus to do something about it. Hermes by the way is my most favorite Greek god of all he is the messenger of the gods, escorts the dead, brings luck in his spare time, has a cape of invisibility, winged sandals, and has a wand that can make mortals sleep and I forgot the rest of the wands powers, also he seems more down to earth than that of the Greek Gods so is Apollo.

But she was also cunning and ruthless. She used her beauty as a weapon. Evil.

So did Aphrodite. Sort of i'll tell the story later because I got to sleep.

Aphrodite was a god in ancient Greek. Am I right? Cleopatra might be a good idea for an enemy female spriggat.

PinkPanzer, what does the Greek mythology, although interesting, have anything to do with the topic on hand? You're not exactly offering any names, and from the criteria, it seems that people who really exitsed, or there is a high degree of possibility of their existence, were used for creating Spriggat names.

Cleopatra was a very powerful, highly influential woman, and she was also real, which seems to fit the bill well for the names for Light Spriggat females.
Although the discussion is interesting, I would think that at this stage (what with the members proposing the Light Spriggat enemy and the stats, different roles as NPCs and explanations as to why the Light Spriggat wasn't seen before, and a vast majority wanting to see a Light Spriggat in the game), it would be nice to get some feedback from Craig himself, as we can go on and on developing further (and we have come up with quite a few things for light spriggats) this idea, but it would be great to know if there is any hope of inclusion of such species in TSoG in any way, methinks.

Furthermore, Cleopatra has the advantage of being from ancient Egypt and the style of TSoG is related to that area of the Earth.

Andromeda in Greek mythology, princess of Ethiopia, daughter of King Cepheus, king of Ethiopia, and Cassiopeia. According to most legends Cassiopeia angered Poseidon by saying that Andromeda (or possibly Cassiopeia herself) was more beautiful than the nereids. Poseidon sent a sea monster to prey upon the country; he could be appeased only by the sacrifice of the king's daughter. Andromeda in sacrifice was chained to a rock by the sea; but she was rescued by Perseus, who killed the monster and later married her. Cassiopeia, Cepheus, and Andromeda were all set among the stars as constellations.

I don't think the name's history will fit any character but I do like the name.

The name is nice, but so far all the Spriggat names were referring to real people (or those, whose existence is highly likely- like Socrates), not myths and legends.

Indeed, Ert. I really like Cleopatra, actually- it has appeal to it. Can anyone think of any other, quiet ancient, names?

I also remembered Nefertiti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nefertiti), but I think she's not as well known as Cleopatra.
But, for completeness sake, somebody may want to take a look at Queens consort of Pharaohs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Ancient_Egyptian_queens_consort) (a number of them became Pharaohs themselves later in life).

Ahhh yes, Nefertiti, how could I forget her! Well, the argument for including this interesting woman is that it will expand people's horizons and they'll learn something new ;)
(Think about it- how many more people found out that there was a philosopher by the surname of Locke, and Hobbes, etc?)

I doubt it- most people probably either recognized it, or thought the names were made up.
I kind of prefer the idea of sticking with philosophers, especially obscure ones, because it seems more original. If there was a character named Kain (FFIV), you immeadiately know he will betray people and it makes the story less fun. Even if it isn't true, it kills immersion and makes you predict the ending. Also, famous rules have such defined personalities and expected actions, where as philosophers names don't.

I wouldn't agree with that- those who read the philosopher's works would expect to see them act in certain ways and hold certain beliefs. This is more like being names after someone- I don't think naming here should be indicative of what the characters do (and so far, it hasn't really been, at least, not with Spriggats- after all, would you expct 3 philosophers to be assassins?).
I think this is good for the more intellectually inclined- if they notice at least one name they recognize, they might wonder if there are any other names which might be of persons of interest and will go and look them up.

Continuing the ancient Egypt plot what about Hatshepsut one of the most successful female pharaohs, reigning longer than any other woman of an indigenous Egyptian dynasty.

i definitely like the idea of using Egyptian names for the light spriggats.  Something about them being sort of golden and having the names of female Egyptian Pharaohs and other well known female Egyptians from the days of the Pharaohs.

Golden Spriggat - flying fighters with a claw attack and light-based breath attacks that hit multiple spaces in a row. Strong against light attacks, but weak to shadow.
We going to see a Spriggat with light affinity in Telepath Tactics, but I am still hoping to see them in TSoG.  What do you guys think?

I'd still like to see them in TSoG, but, at this stage, I don't think that's very likely.

OK. I'm moving it.
...
Done.

Regarding seeing a Golden Spriggat, I think it's possible to see one in the latter stages of the game, perhaps in Somnus or in Lake Alto.
I think I (or somebody else) suggested before that we might even fight one of those in a battle to prove that we have the ability to defeat the Cult (and, who knows, get some troops).

Nice. yellow looks sweet, maybe one white leader could be added? or is it a lil too late in development for this

Sorry--definitely too late in development. However, golden spriggats will be appearing in Telepath Tactics, which means they'll be easy to add into future games.

I am not too disapointed, because I really didn't expect golden spriggats to be put so late in the game.  It is the same feeling one gets from buying a losing lottery ticket.

At most, I expected the Golden Spriggat to be mentioned in passing like Bubashka and Sibelius.
