TSoG Wish List / New Enemy Attack Ideas!
March 16, 2010, 08:26:59 AM
Seems that there is a niche for adding on attacks to existing/proposed enemies as well, so if you have an attack, say for a boss, or simply an attack for existing/still discussed unit, here is the place to post your thoughts!

TSoG / Telepath Difficulty Challenges!
March 16, 2010, 08:19:57 AM
This thread is a spin-off from this thread, where users effectively have been discussing how to make the game-play more challenging. Most of the suggestions made though, I found, could be easily set by the users simply constarining themselves, rather than relying on the game to do so (that will certainly save Craig hours of coding time, and still allow users to enjoy a spicy tactical challenge!). Hence, here is a thread where you can share your suggestions on what the players can do to mount self-imposed challenges. And if you cheat, you'll know it, and, well, you'll simply have to be honest with yourself about it. Otherwise, if you succed: well done!

Let me start things off!

The minimal Nelis Challenge
There was one challenge which I accidently came upon due to a bug in one of the versions: if you minimize your GUI, you cannot maximize it. Thus, I was forced to play the entire Nelis battle (except for the first 2 or 3 turns) blindly navigating my troops around, having only vague idea of who has how much health and how much PsP! And it was done on Brutal: now that was very hard indeed! See if you can also beat Nelis on Brutal with the GUI minimized all the time! (Have a few practice battles beforehand with the GUI open, so that you get, at least, a feel for attack and unit stats.) Good luck!

TSoG Wish List / Re: More Strategy

Again, I think that can be a self-imposed limit: simply spend no more than X amount of gold per battle. Or keep a tally of how many times you used the undo button.
There was a user who played through TRPG2 with using only the initial 3 teammates and the Main, playing through each battle only once, and not resorting to gold farming- that was quite a well-crafted player challenge.

Think of zoos, and zebras in them. They can steal each other's food, you know. ;)

I think it would be neat to come across a White Cape by the name of Craig, who is really powerful and has a few sweet attacks up his sleeve. Maybe a tutor of Psy History of Cera Bella? Methinks that would be highly suiting!

TSoG Wish List / Re: New attacks for teammates
March 16, 2010, 08:11:09 AM
Actually, Presentiment, I think this attack can be used quite often, as it allows the player to expand the positioning of units on the map and allow for such rare things like fontal attack on an enemy, without the need to surround it and expose the units. It also allows to mount an all-around attack on the enemy, surrounding it from all 8 squares and being able to deal damage much more quickly. It also allows the Spearman to be used in maps with many obstacles- where other units are rendered useless 'cause of a boulder, for instance, the Spearman can do the job, making him much more versatile.

About Piercing Throw, I believe people raised issues about this encroaching into Rahel's territory of ranged attacks. Personally, I really like it and think it a logical extension of Throw, but then it would seem that the Spearman would be a much more complete teammate than Rahel.

General Discussion / Re: Why cheat?
March 16, 2010, 07:51:29 AM
All the cheats were introduced quite some time before Crypt 2 was made and with a purpose to be used by players in the final version of the game.
(Though there was one cheat, MrMoneyBags, which was given to us due to Craig having to rewrite the engine, and effectively nullifying all our old saves, and him feeling bad about it: it gives the player 6000 gold to start with.)

TRPG2 / Re: Suggestions for missing TRPG2 endings
March 16, 2010, 07:48:31 AM
Tastidian asked the Main to get the plans for the standard Energy Golem. I suspect that the plans for the prototype, aka Dorgon, were held in the Deeper Downs, where the development workshop was stationed. Hence, when the Main invaded the Mechanics Base, the Main got hold of the plans for the mass-produced version. I am not sure if Tastidian or the Queen realized that Dorgon is a better version of the Eneregy Golem: they seemed to be pretty busy reverse engineering the original model and searching to destroy the assembly line for the said models.
The plans could've been burned or destroyed accidently when the Main and co invaded the Deeper Downs workshop: I suspect the Main had no clue what the plans could look like, if he saw some technical specs here and there (ie difference between the files seemingly randomly located on the developers desktop and a user manual that comes along with the final product: I suspect many wouldn't be able to recognize what goes with what, or even realize that internal document named "Bob" is a specification for modelling of Dorgon's laser burst!).

TPA1 / Re: TPA1 Hero
March 16, 2010, 07:43:37 AM
I definitely agree with that statement. But then I would like to point out that save for Anya and Festus, who knew the most basic and weakest Mind Blasts, most of the human healers (again, referring to the TPA2 Healers) are unable to combine protective shields with elemental attacks and be highly proficient in both. That certainly requires some skill, and TSoG Hero's ability to manipulate both the shileds (4 different varieties, versus 1 for TPA1 Hero) and elemental attacks (4 of those, 2 offensive, 2 defensive, versus 2 for TPA1 Hero) is superior to that of the TPA1 Hero.
Let's put it this way: if in TSoG the Hero will be eventually able to learn two types of elemental attacks, then he will, without a doubt, be considered the strongest Hero, if not, then I do agree that TPA1 Hero seems to have the edge there, with being able to manipulate more elemental attacks, including area attacks, than the TSoG Hero (though there is the issue of him not being able to use Vengeance or anything above a simple Mind Shield- if those factors are more strength, than skill related, then debate can go on, but I do suspect the higher shields and Vengeance simply require more talent and creativity than pure power).

How about using not just an arrow, but a reinforced bolt? A tad heavier, modified, etc, but that would pierce through more than one person, taking ballistics and a little belief into Mechanics being able to come up with a powerful and light launching mechanism.

Also, keeping this unit Psy-less, so that it can fit in with the mechanics, is everyone then against the counter-attacking part, at least?
