TRPG2 / Re: Teammates
March 18, 2010, 07:25:47 PM
Ah, similar to who is your favourite teammate thread back in the old days!
Not an easy question, that!
Depends really on who the rest of the team are and what tactics you employ.
I'll go quickly through the list, categorize, etc.
Anya and Festus: healers. I'll go for Festus over Anya due to them having similar attacks, yet Festus having greater map coverage via his ability to fly and his greater speed.
Flint, Dorgon: golems. I'll never choose Flint, although he is fun to tinker around with, and is, in fact, the fastest unit in TRPG2 (by using his speed boost attack, he can attain speed of 13), I find he is a bit cumbersome to use and is, in general, very slow. Dorgon is also slow, but his attacks have a much higher range. So, with same mobility, but much higher range, go for Dorgon.
Gambli' Jack v Helena: melee fighters. Difficult one to call, his Snake Eyes can be pretty good, and he can heal and Recover, but Helena has this smooth all-around Whirlwind attack... Let's split it between them for now.
Guy, Grotius, Shadwoboxer: effectively Psy Fighters. Well, range-wise, Grotius loses out, as his area attack covers the least spaces. He does have high hp though. Guy loses out on mobility and inability to fly, but has Pyro Hail hitting 5 tiles. So, to a degree, Grotius and Guy are almost equal. Now, Shadowboer's attack covers 9 tiles, has same range, and he is a flying unit iwth greater speed (8) than the other two. Go Shadowboxer.
Darkling and Niven: mobile, individual assassins. Niven is a very odd Shadowling indeed, apart from his dodgy taste in food, he uses non-Psy attacks. It can be quite powerful and Trick Shot sure does the trick in some situations where all other units pass up. Both are flying units, Darkling a little faster (9 v 7), Darkling also has Shadow resistance, Niven doesn't. Darkling, however, can only learn either Feedback or Shadow Blast, meaning that in former case he is quite self-reliant, whilst in latter case he posses a good ranged powerful blast, but is quite weak in the health side. Probably Darkling edging Niven very slightly due to mobility.

Ok, I probably would go for a mobile unit, probably with a ranged attack, to sneure that I get the best field coverage. And that means it will likely be Shadowboxer.

TSoG Wish List / Re: New Attacks For Enemies

Indeed, im2smart4u is very right, the Scorpions can be a damn nuisance, especially when there is more than one of them and when your major attacking power comes from strength-based teammates. 1 strength reduction is more than enough to make several battles rather hard. The power of the attack is especially evident when the Scorpions are not eliminated early on in the battle and manage to strike the troops several times.

The ghost, yogc, is just a concept for now, if it's ever used, it probably will be an optional boss, methinks.

Indeed, Presntiment, we got you the first time, no need to repeat the obvious.

I've ameneded the stats and the topic is, now, locked.

Those are two separate issues, both addressed above, as you clearly found out, since you quoted the answers.

Yes, this has been planned out for well over a year now, the mission is laid out, the dialogues have been written, the battles more or less in their final state, with very few things to add from us as contributors. At this stage it's pretty much up to Craig to decide whether he wants this added in or not. If you want to see the development, have a look at the collab thread between LethalLauire and I on the old forums, or here on the new ones. It took about six months of collabortaion to sort most things out.

TRPG2 / Re: Position of the yellow orb
March 18, 2010, 06:09:24 PM
Not a canon answer, but one that I addressed in fanart in my "back in the day" drawings: my vision of how all the orbs ended up in places where TRPG2 Main found them.
The closest answer to what I drew would be 3: got washed up ashore, and it was somewhere down Lake Alto before. If you're curious, have a look at the old forums fanart section- it will be there. ;)
(I wonder if it will be worth putting the "back in  the day" drawings up in the fanart section of the new forums?)

That is one very good question! I think the pets will stay, as Gelf asks them to help him help his friends. If Gelf goes, the pets will still try to fulfill his wish and help the team. (That part will become a bit more clear if the side-mission gets in- the link between Gelf and his pets is more explored there.)

Good thought, im2msart4u. Maybe there will be a Blurp out there, but not for the particalar Gelf who might join as teammate. But how about enciuntering wild Blurps?

Remember when you ventured a thought that Gelfs would have something like second names, which are different for each of them? Well, they'll refer to each by using a term that differentiates between them.
Their race is Gelf, that is also what they call each other, like a shared middle-name between each member of the species. (Think of this analogy: "corade Ivanov", quite a few of them there, but they could then further specify which of the Ivanov's is meant, and "comrade" part is more or less equivalent to the "Gelf" part: it is an overt symbol of being part of who they are.)

That thought also crossed my mind. But the pets for that particular Gelf have already been dtermined. Still, the creature might inhabit some swamp in the Great Forest, perhaps?

I misundestand: I meant that a creature like a horse is very long and narrow, so the proportions don't really fit well into a square tile, it will have to take up two tiles. Hence, it's best to think through of what the animal would look like, so it's proportions would be roughly srquare overall (look at the Shadow Bug, for instance).

Blurp, you say? Ha, I think that unit could be introduced just for the sake of comic relief! Or why not have it as a pet?
Leap: methinks it's similar to the idea of the Assassin and Shadowling Assassin, where a unit can jump over a teammate and backstab. I think that having at least one such an enemy with good AI will noticeably enhance the battle experience.

For the mounted enemy unit: just make sure that the animal design fits in reasonably well into a square tile (that's the general trouble with horses and camels).

A very specific case, Presnetiment. I'd rather see the difference be two points, this way the same difference-over-time argument could be applied to more situations.

Anyhow, I think that the vast majority of active users have had their say and I'll edit the formulated page accordingly now.
