bugfartboy

You misspelled soldier. Multiple times. And is this an RP?

ArtDrake

Pointing out his spelling errors only make them worse.

Yes, it appears to be an RP.

Sorry, I didn't have much time to revise, I only had Internet at the library, But soon I can be on more regularly, I'll fix that soon. Also what do you think of the backstory, any gaping plotholes?
THE CAT IS BACK!!!!!!1!!!

my telepath LP :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuA3DfguEic

Steelfist

I like the basic idea. Reminds me of a less complicated version of mine, but I suspect I over-complicated mine. I'd be willing to join if you simply corrected the spelling and grammar.

Just my input - you might have to come up with a reason it was only found now; what about a massively powerful psychic shield controlling the mind of those who see it, telling them to ignore it, stay away and forget about it. The reason it was discovered now is that the shield has failed for an unknown reason. This could result in a plotline to find the shield and restart it/destroy it/harness it's power. I'm thinking, fueled by an orb which haas run out of power and can be recharged by . . . well, I can't come up with anything. Feel free to use and adapt this.

One other thing - I might suggest putting in one or two more factions, and why would the mechanics be opposed to modernization when they are devoted to technological advancement?

bugfartboy

I like that idea. Sabotage. But why would Cera Bella like to stay hidden?

Steelfist

Perhaps a powerful psy (Creator of the orbs, maybe?) saw the way the world was going - decadence, corruption but with significant technological advancement (Without a society equiped to deal with it) - and decided he would use his powers to insulate a part of the world from it - Cera Bella. Maybe the origin of psy power was Cera Bella, so by insulating it he cut off the supply of psy power to the world, and over time the ability faded out of knowledge,  and technological progress ground to a halt inside the shield. In fact, the motive could have been to slow down the advance of technology, so that when people developed weapons of mass destruction, it would be within a society that was prepared for it. He/She could have also been trying to remove psy power from the world - maybe the idea that the most naturally talented psy was inevitably the leader wasn't the greatest form of society.

In fact, this idea has large canonical potential. I wonder what Craig thinks of it?

bugfartboy

That makes sense. And I agree. Maybe I'll try making a character, once spelling errors and such are corrected.

See, Cat? Such things matter. If you put in too many comma splices, people start to get irritated.

However, I'll do a very nice thing and edit just this once for you. It'll be up in a while, code form.

Oop! Here it is:
Backstory:
Clash of Worlds

For years, the land of Cerra Bella existed separately from the rest of the developing world, mostly due to the nature of its inhabitants, on a different civilizational tangent. All the while, both worlds (so to speak), remained happily oblivious and apathetic to the existence of the other, complacently awaiting the inevitable.

That is, until a marine research vessel caught in an unseasonal storm is carried from its intended location (the lesser coral reefs on the western coast of Australia) out into the Atlantic ocean. Having only sufficient rations for a few meals, the inexperienced captain panicked and ordered that the vessel be brought ashore on the nearest possible land, regardless of its inhabitatants. Despite the protests of the crew, the vessel dropped anchor eight and a half hours later on an unnamed island deemed unimportant by nearly every major geographical society and country. [Kudos to anyone who can guess where they wound up.]

A young psy by the name of Shanti found the new arrivals as they arrived in small groups aboard small inflatable rafts. At first, she regarded them with suspicion and fear. As for the team of oceanographers, biologists, and meteorologists, they tried fruitlessly to convey their situation to the bemused native. At some point (after much gesturing and rubbing of bellies), the message that the team needed food was conveyed, and they, as well as the sailors and skipper, were permitted to follow Shanti into her village, though they were not permitted within arms length of the villagers. Eventually, due to the charitable efforts of the villagers, enough food was collected for the five day return trip to western Australia.

Upon the party's return to Sydney, Cerra Bella instantly became the most important place in the world, a result of the discovery of psys and, later, massive reserves of crude oil. The pictures of the island were on every front page and magazine cover for nearly a solid year.

In this time, numerous factions took stances or were created because of the growing tensions over the division of these resources. While technically, Cerra Bella lacked sovereignty, many were in defense of allowing the existing population to keep these resouces and not disturbing the inhabitants, despite growing curiosity about Psy.

By sixteen months after the original discovery of the island, Cerra Bella had lost its thunder to excessive celebrity stupidity, time machines and their use as pertaining to being one's own father, and, more so than the preceding two, a new drug which could extend a person's lifespan by between forty and seventy years. Once a person took this drug they were changed not only physically, but mentally, and dubbed a "second," seeming to experience a second lifetime.

But soon, Cerra Bella retook the spotlight as battles started to erupt, at first only in Cerra Bella, but soon spreading to Australia and Argentina, and within the next year India, Pakistan, and Indonesia became entangled in the violence, old disputes taking precedence over reason and modern thinking.

The fighting continued for over ten years and showed no sign of stopping. The original leaders and figures were becoming less able to control their factions, and many found themselves looking for a stronger "hero" persona to rally behind. [This is where you come in, if you hadn't figured that bit out.]

Cat, please open the spoiler, copy, and paste to the first post. If there's anything you object to, just change it, because I changed some things that didn't make sense, explained some things, and tweaked one or two class profiles to make them unique.

And there may have been some minor corruption around the newline characters, so you may want to clean those up. I really don't think I can do anything about it; it doesn't show up clientside in the Modify box.

Is Cat's story something similar to this : http://sinisterdesign.net/forum/index.php?topic=806.0?

If that's so, isn't the idea 'declared dead'?  >:(

Even so, if people are willing to get this RP going, then I'm joining.
I doesn't care, do I?

The main difference between your story and Kitty's is that Kitty seems to have a direction with which he is going with this, you know, a story line, not just an idea that others can't think anything up for.

No offense meant.

the island was known but the massive amounts of psyonic energy concentrated on the island of Cerra Bella cloaked the sattelite scans for life and the island was deemed uninhabitable and dangerous.

They are but not for other people's gain. the mechanics still don't want areas in which they were centered to be filled with oil rigs. I only put in a few factions because there should be more than one person per faction.

Thank you very much; you do not know how much this means to me.

Oh! What happened to the backstory? It's no longer on the first page!

I'm afraid the difficulty I'm having logging in consistently will probably prevent me actually joining in for the foreseeable future, if this ever takes off, but hopefully I'll be able to keep abreast of the story. I'd hate to see a good idea like this bump.
