Telepath Tactics has been released!

It’s finally happened! After years of work, Telepath Tactics has finally been released!

You can buy Telepath Tactics direct from me right here for $14.99:

You can also find Telepath Tactics on Steam (where it is currently Windows-only, though I’ll be adding Mac and Linux versions there in the coming weeks) and on GOG.com (in Windows and Mac flavors).

* if you’re getting the Linux version, make sure to nab and install AIR first! I’m planning to create a Linux installer that doesn’t require this, but I’m not there just yet.

As for the map editor, I’m releasing it free of charge to anyone who wants to use it! You won’t be able to get full use out of the thing without the game, of course, but I want as many people as possible to get proficient in making stuff for Telepath Tactics–to my mind, this benefits everyone:

Note that I’m aware of some bugs in the editor; rest assured that I’ll be working hard to fix those over the coming days!

Finally, let’s cap this off with some perspective on the history of Telepath Tactics’s development. I first started working on Telepath Tactics back in March 2009 during my last couple of months of law school. In between studying for final exams and working on Telepath RPG: Servants of God, I was tinkering with the basics of an engine that would come to be the basis for the game you now see. 

Telepath RPG: Servants of God released in February 2012, at which point I was able to give Telepath Tactics my full attention. A little more than a year after that, I successfully Kickstarted Telepath Tactics to the tune of $41,259–all of which (and a good deal more!) went into making the game.

Now, a whopping 6 years after I first began work on it, Telepath Tactics is finally getting released. I’m a solo developer, and it’s been quite challenging to create this game while holding down a day job. Regardless, I think I’ve accomplished something special here: a tactical RPG on PC with a large cast of charming, well-written characters, mod support, and unparalleled tactical depth. I hope you enjoy playing the game as much as I’ve enjoyed making it for you!

    Ug, I got it on steam (I was like counting down the seconds) to find it was only available on PC, not Mac. After a brief heart attack I came here to realise I could have (and should have) gotten it here instead. Guess I’ll have to wait just that little bit longer. Regardless congrats on finally releasing your long awaited masterpiece, as a long standing fan of the Telepath series I cannot wait to play, and I am sure that you’ll meet or exceed my rather high expectations.

    That being said, If I am sure you will exceed my expectations I suppose that means I must have higher expectations which are at the exact level I expect the game to be, so I suppose thats impossible. If I expect you to exceed my expectations, wait, I need to think about this more…

    I downloaded the Mac version of the map editor, but errors come up and it doesn’t allow me to do anything on it. It says “Couldnt get the file! null/ObjClasses.xml”, and a few other error messages come up. Any idea how to fix it?

    Hey TDAW! I’m actually aware of that issue–it’s right near the top of my list of things to fix. For now, I recommend running Parallels (or some other virtualization program) and using the Windows map editor.

    Have You thought about PS Vita version, I bet Vita community would welcome and embrace your game with open Arms! I know I’d buy digital & physical versions in a heart beat(both!)

    Thanks! I’m currently remaking the engine in Unity–once the PC version is done, any number of ports should be possible! Different devices take a different amount of work to get a game running well on them, though; I’ll have to look into which ones make sense later on down the road.
