TELEPATH RPG CHAPTER 2:
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Are there any known bugs?
A: There are a few rather minor ones, but nothing show-stopping. If you happen to get stuck in a wall while running around, just open the in-game menu, go to Saved Games, then hit Save and Load in that order.
Q: How do I move around / talk to people / switch characters / fight battles?
A: The tutorials explain all of this. Just click the Tutorial button when the game loads.
Q: I don't get experience points. How do I level up?
A: This is explained in the Advanced tutorial. Basically, you level up individual skills and stats whenever you want by training with the money you've earned. This allows for a lot more flexibility than an experience point system, and it's simpler to boot.
Q: Can I increase my personality or aptitude in this chapter?
A: Yes! You can put a point into either whenever you gain a level.
Q: How do I find the Mechanics base?
A: Keep "searching" the Lowlands until the game tells you you've found it.
Q: Why can't I get Gamblin' Jack?
A: You probably have low Aptitude. If your Aptitude is too low, your character won't recognize him.
Q: How do I play Jack's card game?
A: Every turn, both you and Jack select a card to play. Whoever has the higher card value deals the difference between the two cards in damage to their opponent. For example, if you played a 12 and Jack played a 2, you'd deal 10 damage to Jack.
Some cards have special abilities that cost Psy Points. If you have enough Psy Points, those abilities will activate automatically when you play the card. If you don't have enough Psy Points, you can still play the card, but the special ability won't activate.
Q: How many orbs are there in the game, and what do they do?
A: There are eight orbs in the game, though most of them are hidden in one way or another. The Blue, Orange, White, and Black orbs give your character elemental resistances. The Crimson orb upgrades your Pyro Blast attack to Pyro Hail. The Indigo orb upgrades your Mind Shield to Big Shield. The Green orb vastly increases your move speed in combat. The Yellow orb gives you "hyper focus," allowing you to recover vastly more PsP during combat.
Q: How many orbs can I use at once?
A: You can use up to two: one of the four elemental resistance orbs, and one of the four ability orbs.
Q: Helena/Grotius won't talk to me anymore. Can I still get them to join my party?
A: If you've talked to them and they no longer want anything to do with you, there's nothing more you can do to make them join.
Q: Why can't I hurt the Bug Queen?
A: You have to attack her on a specific portion of her body to do damage to her. It should be kind of obvious just from looking at her where that is.
Q: How do I get past the Security Station area in Mission 5?
A: An enterprising fan has already put together an excellent walkthrough for this mission on the Sinister Design forums.
Q: How do I escape the island through Lake Alto after it's been mined in Mission 6?
A: I've put together a quick walkthrough for that here on the forums.
Q: How many endings does this game have?
A: Two. Which one you get depends on choices you make near to the end of the game.
Q: How long did this take to make?
A: We began working on this in September 2006. Our original plan was to use this game's battle system in Chapter 1, but since Chapter 1 was our first flash game, we just weren't experienced enough with Actionscript to pull it off. So while we started working on the engine over the summer, we didn't really get anywhere until Fall 2006.
Q: What was the inspiration for the new combat system? This game reminds me of Shining Force, Final Fantasy Tactics, or Dark Wizard. Is it modeled after them?
A: Shining Force definitely inspired much of the combat's style. Dark Wizard exerted an influence as well.
Q: Why didn't you just make the combat system like Final Fantasy's?
A: We tried that with the first chapter. It was kind of boring, we thought, though it was quite easy to make. This time around, we wanted something that would challenge us and, more importantly, challenge the player. We like games where you have to think to win, and there aren't nearly enough strategy RPGs in this vein.
Q: Is there going to be a special edition of this game sold on CD?
A: You bet! It may be a little while before we release it, though. Keep checking the website for details.
Q: I found a bug / I want to tell you how much I like this game! Can I email you?
A: Sure, but I'll probably notice your message more quickly if you just post it on the forums.
