As you might or might not know, TSoG will be the first projects in which there will be a number of cheats a player can use. However, Craig only gives hints at what the cheats do, but never gives them directly to us. So far our common efforts have yielded answers for all, but one of the cheats. And if any more will come, here is a place to share ideas, discuss any interpretation of the hints, show us succesful and failed tries!
Thus, as ender wrote, "in order to trigger cheats, enter them as the character name". They are all 11 characters long, can be several words, each words is written from a capital letter and there are no spaces between words. The cheat we haven't cracked yet is the one that gives Aptitude level 99.
What we know about it:
-the cheat is related to its effects
-it is 2 words
-the second word is a synonym for "scholar"
-it is two words, neither of which is an article
-one word involves knowledge or intelligence
-does not use the words: smartest, prodigal, brilliant, bright, pupil, or scholar
-does not contain any proper nouns
-no numbers
The last four points on the list were compiled together by Barzul.
So, what are your thoughts, folks?
should we post the ones we figured out at the old forum? and as for the 99 aptitude there's a cheat like that it gives you 99 everything.
Well, the list of the ones that were figures out is up already in the walkthroughs section, so there is no need. It would be nice to have that cheat for completness' sake, as well as for beta-testing purposes: to see which effects are personality controlled, and which are aptitude controlled. Also, some might wish to cheat, but not have psy attack and psy defense at their max levels, so that they can simply play through the game as usual, except for their Hero being very smart at connecting different things together.
Yeah I noticed it after I posted, I thought there was a secret one that wasn't found not including the 99 aptitude one?
Why would you even put cheats in the game? All they do is take the fun of an actual strategy game and bust it to pieces. The only people that use them are the new people, and then they feel accomplished until they try without the cheats, in which case they will never not use cheats in the game. So why?
That's your opinion, which isn't shared by the many who do use the cheats. Had people not felt the need to use them, there wouldn't be any. Some find the game too diffcult, but play it for the storyline, so it would be a shame to not be able to finish off the game and leave in frustration. Then you cheat even if you beat the game, just to have a bit of fun, see how you can beat the ridicilously difficult oppoistion with ease or try out some new funky tactical moves without the pressure of having to survive in battle. Then one can use cheats to playtest the game, something I personally find very useful (e.g. the gold cheat), especially when the engine gets tweaked and we have to start anew- this provides for a quick and easy way to see if all combinations work and aptitude/personality factors, training, etc, is working well. I'm sure others will find more reasons why would one want to cheat in a game and still have a good time without spoiling it for oneself.
Meanwhile, this is a thread for those who would like to help those in need of the aforementioned cheats, so any contributions in this direction are welcome. (You can start a thread about the need to cheat in games/life/whatnot in general in the "general" forums- I'm sure people will have a lot to say for and against ;) )
I have tried sooooo much to find it the aptitude cheat...no luck...*sigh* :(
Please share with us your attempts. Thinking about the wrong ones may lead us to the right one!
Sorry now i don't remember...If I try any others I'll write them down
OK. No problem.
Ah! And where are my manners? :)
Welcome to the forums! Read the rules, continue to use proper grammar, play the games, and enjoy your stay.
Haha thanks. I had a different name on the old forums, so i'm not really new, but thanks anyway :)
Do you think it could have the word genius in it?

Do you think it could have the word genius in it?
No I've tryed almost almost the genuis. I think it has to do something with Student.
The word has something to do with "scholar"- it's a synonym, but so far- no luck!
Ahh, Ertxiem, you do know the drill, but allow me to repeat my usual greetings!
DarknessRuler: welcome back to the forums, keep playing the games, read the rules, keep using proper grammar and punctuation and enjoy your stay!
Its too late to try for me, but a search on a thesaurus yielded:
Academic
Researcher
Intellectual
for 'scholar'. Work with that in mind. :)
Here are some more synonyms to use
academic, augur, bookish person, bookworm, brain*, critic, disciple, doctor, egghead, gnome, grind*, intellectual, learned person, learner, litterateur, person of letters, philosopher, professor, pupil, sage, savant, schoolchild, scientist, student, teacher, tool, wise person

KZ: Beat you again in the welcome message! :P
Hey guys this is all the synonyms that I could find for intelligence. I sure hope it helps
IQ, acuity, acumen, agility, alertness, aptitude, brainpower, brains, brightness, brilliance, capacity, cleverness, comprehension, coruscation, discernment, gray matter, intellect, judgment, luminosity, mentality, mind, penetration, perception, perspicacity, precocity, quickness, quotient, reason, sagacity, savvy, sense, skill, smarts, subtlety, the right stuff, trenchancy, understanding, what it takes, wit
Any ideas on what the first word could be? I can try synonyms of scholar all day but i don't know what would be infront of it. I've tried Great, fast, super, mega, things like that. Any other suggestions?
Also, could there possibly be some hints at the academy from the people you can talk to?
I give up for today...i pretty much have the list of synonyms for scholar on thesaurs.com memorized I've read it so much...*sigh* if only we had some kind of hint for the first word.
perhaps "Perfect" is a word in it? or maybe it has something to do with Craig's personal life? aka schools he attended.
Harvard
Cambridge
Princeton
Apparently not- the cheat is somehow associated with the effect it has on the player's actions within the game.
Actually I was jaykayeyeenjee.
I was answering rainen's question- I think that much is obvious (for he had a question, y'see).
Anyhow- find a synonym for scholar and try all combinations, maybe something will pop up!
Intresting... However, i think those hints should be mentioned in the games, and that they should be explained (sacred words or something).
Yeah well I have tried a lot of combinations and none of them worked. eleven letters is fairly tough for two words with no articles. the words are probably like a 5 letter and 6 letter word, in either order. It could possibly be 4 and 7, though i think 5 and 6 is more likely. "Perfect" is a seven letter word, and the second word is a synonym of scholar, and very few synonyms of scholar are 4 letters...even if it's somewhat of a stretch of being a synonym, like "book" or something, it would still be fairly difficult to find a word. I don't believe it would be like that though, because he wouldn't give us synonym of scholar if it wasn't one...just some random thoughts that hopefully help somewhat :D
Has anyone had any new ideas lately? I am still trying words but have not had any luck obviously.
I had the idea to post the info on yahoo answers. lets see if that community can figure it out!
also i tried MindReader and BookReader.
mabye you can try Bookworm or Brain?
No luck for me.
Steelfist, why don't you post what you tried?
Just the generic- the only one I can remember trying now is fast learner, but I was considering whether or not Sage is a synonym for scholar, and If so, how to incorporate it (Do the names have to be 11 letters long? I wasn't sure).
Yup. 11 letters.
Wisestudent- no luck.
Does capitalization matter?
Yes. You capitalize for the next word. Like that would have been WiseStudent.
Intellegent Mabye?
The major key for now is that the second word is a synonym for scholar, so maybe folks let's try again and finally get this (final?) cheat out of the way? After all, we managed to crack all the others pretty fast, only this one has been avoiding us for now!
Craig, maybe you'll give us another hint- ie is it more in style with Untouchable/Charismatic rather than MrMoneyBags or RollingInIt?
All the synonyms I can think of academic, augur, bookish person, bookworm, brain*, critic, disciple, doctor, egghead, gnome, grind*, intellectual, learned person, learner, litterateur, person of letters, philosopher, professor, pupil, sage, savant, schoolchild, scientist, student, teacher, tool, wise person, philosopher, savant, pundit, authority, sage, professor, academic, teacher, doctor, litterateur, learned person; see also critic 2, intellectual, scientist.
Scholars include: editor, textual critic, lexicographer, historian, biographer, bibliographer, comparativist, linguist, philologist, semanticist, paleographer, historiographer, archaeologist, demographer, geographer, geopolitician, political scientist, sociologist, philosopher, folklorist, anthropologist, economist, ethnologist, cartographer, classicist, humanist, behaviorist, dialectologist, rhetorician, grammarian, etymologist, musicologist, literary historian, theologian, orientalist.
Some are probably repeating. I found a lot over google search.
I wonder what makes the cheat so elusive?
I hope Craig gives us another clue!
I'll bet it uses a word from another language. Maybe latin or something.

I happen to be interested in Latin and am currently learning it over the summer.
I believe a scholar is philologus in Latin. Latin is a zombie language.
Latin is considered a dead language yet some people know it and even speak it.
Craig said that the words will all be in English, rainen.
In any case, good to see more effort put in, let's see if we can finally overcome this last cheat hurdle!
Thanks for compiling a synoynms list, Tastidian! Have you tried testing it yet?
Maybe we should also try to make a short list of 2, 3, 4, 5 letter words which would go with scholar?
(e.g. great, etc)
my school teaches latin. Some of the students are even able to converse with each other by speaking only latin. We're also taught the roots of most words which are usually latin or greek. Mostly latin though. Looks to me like latin might end up making a comeback ;) but maybe using latin to compile "fake" words would be something that Craig did? yea I doubt it too but i just had to throw that out there :P

Nope can't say that I have. But i'll try the ones most likely.
I took Tastidian's post and took out all of the ones 11 letters or more, and most of the ones that are irrelevant, and the repeats.
academic, augur, bookworm, brain, critic, disciple, doctor, egghead, learner, professor, sage, savant, scientist, student, tool, pundit, authority, academic, teacher, historian, biographer, linguist, geographer, classicist, grammarian.
And then there's a list of synonyms for "smart."
acute, adept, agile, alert, apt, astute, bold, brainy, bright, brisk, canny, clever, crafty, fresh, genius, good, keen, knowing, nervy, nimble, pert, quick, ready, sassy, sharp, shrewd, skull, slick, whiz, wise
As with the second words, I took out all the words over length 7 (7 because the shortest of words in the top words is 4 long). Then I went back to the second words, and shortened the max length to 8, as the shortest in the first words is 3.
augur, brain, critic, doctor, egghead, learner, savant, student, teacher, tool, pundit, sage.
And finally, I used a Flash program to put them all together.
AptBookworm, AptDisciple, AptAcademic, BoldEgghead, BoldLearner, BoldStudent, BoldTeacher, GoodEgghead, GoodLearner, GoodStudent, GoodTeacher, KeenEgghead, KeenLearner, KeenStudent, KeenTeacher, PertEgghead, PertLearner, PertStudent, PertTeacher, WhizEgghead, WhizLearner, WhizStudent, WhizTeacher, WiseEgghead, WiseLearner, WiseStudent, WiseTeacher, AcuteSavant, AcutePundit, AcuteDoctor, AcuteCritic, AdeptSavant, AdeptPundit, AdeptDoctor, AdeptCritic, AgileSavant, AgilePundit, AgileDoctor, AgileCritic, AlertSavant, AlertPundit, AlertDoctor, AlertCritic, BriskSavant, BriskPundit, BriskDoctor, BriskCritic, CannySavant, CannyPundit, CannyDoctor, CannyCritic, FreshSavant, FreshPundit, FreshDoctor, FreshCritic, BrainSavant, BrainPundit, BrainDoctor, BrainCritic, NervySavant, NervyPundit, NervyDoctor, NervyCritic, QuickSavant, QuickPundit, QuickDoctor, QuickCritic, ReadySavant, ReadyPundit, ReadyDoctor, ReadyCritic, SassySavant, SassyPundit, SassyDoctor, SassyCritic, SharpSavant, SharpPundit, SharpDoctor, SharpCritic, SkullSavant, SkullPundit, SkullDoctor, SkullCritic, SlickSavant, SlickPundit, SlickDoctor, SlickCritic, AstuteAugur, AstuteBrain, BrainyAugur, BrainyBrain, BrightAugur, BrightBrain, CleverAugur, CleverBrain, CraftyAugur, CraftyBrain, GeniusAugur, GeniusBrain, NimbleAugur, NimbleBrain, ShrewdAugur, ShrewdBrain, KnowingSage, KnowingTool.
Happy testing!
Or maybe I'll test them all and get back to you... but if you (whomever reads this) would like to find it first, then you'd probably get it done faster.
Yeah none of mine worked.
As in, none of the words you provided?
Exactly
It might very well be that we already found the right synonym for "scholar", but haven't found the other word it's thered to. Thus, what ideas do you folks have for short, 3, 4 or 5 letter words that would, probably, be somehow related to "good" or "better than average"?
Vivid, maybe (it's a synonym for "bright")?
How do you see if the cheat worked? Do you have to acually start the game?
-Edited-
I've tested these:
"AcademicOne" "GoodTeacher" "WisestAugur" "WalkingWits" "VeryCapable" "KnowingMind" "VividCritic" "CapitalSage" "PsiDesciple" "Mr.Academic" "GoodLearner" "BeamingSage" "GoldenAugur" "RaidientTool" "PrimeSavant" "GreatDoctor" "DuluxeGnome" "SuperSavant" "SuperbBrain" "NiceTeacher" "PureLearner" "AbleEgghead" "CleverBrain" "AbleLearner"
Submmited to me by namelesskitty:
"SuperGenius"
I'm going to keep adding to this list. ;) I hope I find it first. 8)
Still can't find any and used way to many.
Some are so ridiculous Craig would never put them for example "RaidientTool".
So. I'm just picking out words at random and sticking them in front of synonyms.
At the end of the day, it'll probably be something obvious...
Can I just mention that a few of the words are spelt wrong; even if they were the cheat they wouldn't work.
So far I've tried:

PerfectSage, BrainyAugur, CleverPupil, BrainyPupil, WiseLearner, SmartDoctor,

Is that what you meant to post?
Pupil certainly won't work ;)
For those who might have trouble with spelling, online dictionaries could help, and ensure that folks don't waste their time by accidently mis-typing a word.
I wonder why this particular cheat is so hard to get? So far, all the other cheats were found within the first couple of days, if not hours!
Craig, can you give us a hint in terms of what style the cheat is in comparison to the other cheats (for instance, you have cheats like
Charismatic and Untouchable
, and then you have something like
MrMoneyBags and RollinInIt
). Thus, does the cheat sound more like the former, or it is better classed in the latter category?
(Methinks it's the former, but better check. And you wouldn't be giving too much away. ;) )
I still can't believe that nobody has found the aptitude cheat. Something tells me that it's a word that is constantly used in the wrong way.
Smartitudes. (S-1, m-2, a-3, r-4, t-5, i-6, t-7, u-8, d-9, e-10, s-11). I know it doesnt go with the clues but I tried it anyway.
It has to be 2 words.
"CygnusAugur" doesn't work.
Fyer is mad. :P :P :P
Maybe, we should be thinking about what it does. Bright means smart but bright also means shiny/reflective. Perhaps it is BrightBrain and it grants light resistance.
We know what it does. Just look at the beginning. It gives 99 Aptitude. The clues are at the beginning of the thread too.
Has anyone tried the words Nerd or Geek? These would fit in with some of the more humorous names. I know this kid who we call the Dan the Scholar and Dan the Nerd, so they are at least quasisynonomous.
Welcome Visitor (I posted (http://sinisterdesign.net/forum/index.php?topic=2.msg36654#msg36654) a very brief welcome message in the Introductions thread).
It's been a while since I tried to find this cheat. I recall the a few of the folks posted their attempts in the old forums. So, please share your attempts with us, even if you can't find the correct one. We may have new ideas from those. New input is always good.

I won't be making any attempts. I'm waiting for the full version to be released before I play the game at all. I have been waiting patiently for the game since last december and I am only just now getting impatient and visiting the forum.
That's...intriguing, Visitor.
GeekStudent or NerdStudent doesn't work.

Hint: in the list of combinations above, one of the correct words (but only one of them) appears.
List of Possible First Words: Apt, Bold, Good, Keen, Pert, Whiz, Wise, Acute, Adept, Agile, Alert, Brisk, Canny, Fresh. Brain, Nervy, Quick, Ready, Sassy, Sharp, Skull, Slick Astute, Brainy, Bright, Clever, Crafty, Genius, Nimble, Shrewd, Knowing,
I think it's probably one of the second words that his clue refers to. the first word might be a different kind of adjective. idk just a thought
Getting rid of the silly ones and those ruled out by the clues, we have:
Possible First words: Keen, Wise, Knowing.
Possible Second words: Learner.
Remember, only one of these words is used.
No way can this cheat be so freakin hard that it is :-* unsolvable :-*! :o ??? >:( :( :'(
I'm now fairly sure that the second word is disciple.
It fits with the context of the game, and it's a loose synonym of scholar. The other word should be easy; it's three letters long.
The only 3 letter words I could find having to do with intelligence were Apt and Wit, and neither of those worked with disciple. So, Im fairly sure it isn't.
Okay, false alarm.
What about the world Apostle?
Nope... WitApostle or AptApostle don't work...

That would be 10 letters.
I count 7+4 = 11 letters...
He's got you there.
Craig, when the full game is released, will you be revealing the last cheat and make us all feel like idiots for not figuring it out?
Oops, I counted Apostle as 6 letters. Sorry Ert!

How did I guess? Well, I cheated. ;)
My Psy Powers also sense that there are more undiscovered cheats. Perhaps there is even one we have all dreamed about, but I'll let The Creator guide us to their paths.
Cheated? D: Thanks, though.
Sarlok you monster! You broke the first and most important rule of the cheat determination. DO NOT CHEAT TO FIND THE CHEATS! and now, I must resist the dying urge to open that spoiler.
My question is, how did he cheat?
I cheated by using my psychic powers. I had to train up my skill a bit first.
Can you elaborate please? :)
I think he used an swf decompiler or something like that, which let him see the names of variables.
Well, as long as no one objects... COUGH.
Although doing something like that is strictly against the license we all agreed to when downloading the demo.
I havn't downloaded it. Quote the Liscense for me?
In relevant part:
"You agree that you will not, under any circumstances:
A. in whole or in part, copy, photocopy, reproduce, translate, reverse engineer, derive source code from, modify, disassemble, decompile, or create derivative works based on the Game..."
No source code or assembly was created or harmed in the filming of this cheating production.
Question: Would it have been possible to do the same through the online demo?
Since you guys have now found all of the cheats, I'm locking this thread (subject to reopening later if I decide to add more cheat codes to the game).
