There is a chest square in the far right-hand corner of the map in the first mission. I cannot move my character on top of it to collect it.

You have to destroy chests to collect their contents; only when they're destroyed and an item sack drops can you walk onto the space. Are you saying that you destroyed the chest and you couldn't walk onto the space with the item sack afterwards?
