so the void bug has finally had all the details hashed out, so is it what about a bug that is a bodyguard for the queen and is only seen with a queen anymore thought on that?
Not really, the Void Bug is simply an experienced and successful Shadow Bug that helps out in the colony in times of grave danger (e.g. a natural disaster, an invasion, etc).
kinda like superman? or something.
Err, no: more like an experienced and very talented warrior.
well I meant more along the lines of saves the bugs when all looks lost not as in the all powerful kinda way.
Yes, hellboy, the void bug is a guardian like Superman.
Well, yes: not omnipotent, but simply superior.
sorry for the mix I've been up all night every thing's a bit foggy, are the bugs gonna have like their own arc like the deeper downs in trpg2?
Niche you mean?
Niche: a place, employment, status, or activity for which a person or thing is best fitted
The golem's niche is a low mobility unit that can be easily avoided. A moving ranged unit is not easily to avoid.
huh, I always viewed golems as slow, hard hitting, goliaths, in which case, having a ranged golem would be a good idea, filling the ranks.

There is an already formulated Dorgon class energy golem. If any golem doesn't fit in the easy to avoid category, it would be the Dorgon.

By makeing the golems ranged, they become more difficult to avoid, therefore not fitting their niche.

I know that. I was the one who orginally suggested the Dorgon Golem. Even though the Dorgon Golem doesn't fit the golem niche, I made an exception, so Dorgon could have some type of legacy.

That is really round-a-bout logic.
Besides, I didn't mention anything about being easily avoidable, simply slow moving, if placed in the right spot they become unavoidable. For example, the mazes in TRG2

They were avoidable in TRPG2. If the bronze golems were ranged, then they would have been unavoidable in TRPG2.
so surround them and they can't hit you, sounds pretty avoidable to me.
Some golems are slow moving with high hp. Their attacks are melee or close range (the spin saw attack by the bronze golem). Other golems are static with extreme range attacks (energy golems). Dorgon is in between of these two types. I think that there is space in this niche to create another golem between the bronze golem and Dorgon. Still slow moving (1 square) and with high hp (but lower than the bronze golem) with an attack with range 2 or 3. If it has a melee attack too it may be more powerful than the other golems (which might be great as a boss guard). I liked the cannon golem from Barzul's story (http://sinisterdesign.net/forum/index.php?topic=66.msg632#msg632). However, I didn't like that much the suggestion made about the bolt shooting golem (http://sinisterdesign.net/forum/index.php?topic=26.msg1530#msg1530). It's too close to a gun. I think it was more fitting to see a golem wielding a mace ball with a long chain, perhaps with a range 2 attack.
Just as a remark: in the security station mission, in at least one of the maps it was quite hard to avoid being hit at least once by one of the bronze golems.
Quotehuh, I always viewed golems as slow, hard hitting, goliaths, in which case, having a ranged golem would be a good idea, filling the ranks.
So did I. Not surprisingly, opinions on what niche the golems fit into varies from person to person.
Indeed, the golems have their own niche, but there is variety to be found within them. I actually think that, as Ertxiem rightly said, there is space for a slow-moving golem with a ranged attack- a bit like the Bronze Golem, but rather than covering area near itself, it could launch forward attacks. I do believe such a unit can be avoidable- at the very least it will not be hard to calculate which area of the map they'll be able to cover in the next turn, so I don't think the range of a 2-3 tile hitting attack is such a big issue.
Has it been decided what it will be shooting? is it regular crossbow bolts or is it going to be a steel spike/bolt type thing?
I prefer a heavy bolt or javelin over a crossbow bolt. After all, if the bolt is going to penetrate enemies, I would want it to be a little heavy.
yeah it cant be too heavy though because then it would be hard to explain realistically.
Well telepathy is the deus ex machina of the Telepath universe.
but, of course, the mechanical golems are not really known for their psychic abilities... hmm maybe we should have one! lol nah, that's too far, I think.
You can mindblast them.
