Poll
Question: What version of the TRPG2 Hero do you like more?
Option 1: Version one
Option 2: Version two
Title: Telepath RPG Flash movie
Post by: TheWanderingShadow on January 10, 2011, 11:18:31 PM
If no one has done it yet, I think I just might try my hand at it. What do you guys think?

EDIT: Alright, so you may have noticed that I've posted a bit of character art. I've now made art for the hero. I tried making both a male and a female version, but when I got some feedback from the people around me, I was told that both versions had very ambiguous genders. That seemed appropriate to me, and since the vote is rather close, I'll follow im2smart4u's suggestion and keep the gender ambiguous. I'll post the art and have you pick between the versions. Sound good?
EDIT: Version two is preferred. Thank you for your feedback, and I'll try to improve the picture when I have time.

Oh. Well, what do you mean by Flash Movie?

Make a movie. In Flash. That was what it was made for, after all.

And interactive programs like the one that the entire forums is about.

Well, it was originally for animations. I don't think the original had Actionscript.

Yes, but spanning the whole game. And without the game.  :P

Alright. But question: How good would the quality be? How accurate would it be? And which game?

Hopefully TRPG2, as it is the most interesting (to me, at least) so far, and TSoG will narrow it down to very few players who have pre-ordered it, but TRPG1 is also pretty good, as it is short, and fit to be improved slightly in the form of a flash movie.

I think that if he does TRPG2 he should include TRPG1 to give the back story.

TRPG1 could probably be fit in one or two episodes and used as a flashback. Considering TSoG isn't released yet, I won't do that. I would try to be loyal to the plot of TRPG2, but some things would have to be changed and some events rearranged. I'm only a mediocre animator and artist, so maybe I should practice a bit more before trying to do this.

No worries, I can't even look at flash animating software without getting confused to the core, if you post it, we'll watch it and give some constructive feedback... I don't know if I can make any, unless it's story related, because I don't know how to improve, or even make, animations, but you can't succeed without trying, nor can you fail without trying, but you can just lye there wondering when you'll start trying without trying... I think that's enough of the word "trying" for one post, but you catch my drift. ;)

Uh... Yeah. I don't know much about Flash programming so go ahead and try. And if you fail, try, try again. And I'd you fail that time, start singing the lyrics to "I believe I can Fly" but substitute the word "Fly" with "Try".

I believe I can try... I believe I can attempt to touch the sky... I think about it every night and day... Stretch my arms and try away... I believe I can attempt to soar... I see me attempting to open that do-or. I believe I can try... I believe I can try. I believe I can try-y...

Get my point? Sorry if it's off topic.

Alrighty then! Let's get this straight. What gender should the hero be? Any name suggestions?

I think it'd be interesting if main was a she, since usually you'd think the "personality" that main has is kinda guyish. I have no idea about the name thought...

Hmm... That would be interesting. I'll wait for people to vote before deciding.

I would prefer it if the main character was female.

The all black seems very masculine to me.  Plus, I have never seen a girl who wears her hair like the Main does.

I think the face should be hidden like in Halo and Metroid.  All the views of the Hero should be when he has a hood on.  That way a shadow always covers the face.  If the character is voiced, then it should be a voice of a young boy, so it seems the voice could come from either a young boy or from a girl.

Yes, I've decided to keep the Hero's gender ambiguous. You can pick which version on my first post.

But this brings up the problem of naming the Hero. Can anyone help me think of some unisex names?

Sam. It can stand for Samantha or Samuel.

Alex (Alexander, Alexandra)? Sasha (Alexander, Alexandra)?

Both suggestions look almost the same. Also, neither of them look like the Hero we know.  From the view from above and his in-game portrait, we can tell he has very messy red hair.  Both suggestions have neatly combed hair.

Jordan is the most common unisex name that I know.

Yeah. Neither of them look gender neutral. And I think Sam, Jordan, and Alex are good ideas.

Is it possible to go with a no-name?

It'd be difficult. Have you ever tried writing a book or even a short story without giving your main character a name and gender? It's sorta difficult. You have to avoid dialogue in some places.

Now that you bring it up, it appeals to me. Why not choose a gender that proceed to work on it?

Jack London omitted a name in 'To Build a Fire'. Edgar Allan Poe left out a name and gender in 'The Tell-Tale Heart'. Liam O'Flaherty included no name in 'The Sniper'.

But then again, to be fair, none of these stories had dialogue. Much. 'To Build A Fire' had a bit.

I don't mean to grave dig, but are you still working on this, TWS? Were you ever?

I'm sorry, I just stumbled upon this and remembered what an interesting idea this was.

Eheh, I appreciate the interest, but no, sorry. ^_^; Back then, I didn't feel like my art skill was good enough to achieve something like this, so I wanted to get better first. I think I'm closer to the level I want to be now! I hope to pick this up sometime in the future.
