Title: Hero Name Change

I think a good feature to add is the ability to change the name of the hero at any given time. Especially with the cheats thing. But I also wanted to know who would agree with me or not so start voting.

No. as of right now that's how cheats are implemented. That way you can identify who the cheaters are. Personally I think the name should be permanent throughout that game.

Also, if you could change your name, you could enter multiple cheats, not giving the AI a chance at defeating youu.

WHAT IF YOU COULD MAKE SO YOU CAN ONLY ENTER ONE CHEAT. Ops sorry about the caps didn't realize they where on. Also I just thought of this because I played the game to the point where my stats became nearly100 each. But I put in a name I wanted to change.

I already suggested this on the old forum. To place this in-game, the idea is that the Hero would might want to have a new, fake identity, so that there is even less chance he will be recognised. Now, one way of doing it is, say, Arman knows someone who can create fake ids, and for the right amount of cash, the person can give Duvalier a new name. Simple and effective, and quite true, since Duvalier is probably a well known name, and having a new identity, especially if you're on the run, and are planning to hang around, it almost a must.

I do believe this got Craig's attention at one point, and, if I remember correctly, his answer was along the lines of "we'll see".
I'm definitely for this.

Hey that was a great idea on how to put in the name change feature. It should be expensive though around 2500 gold.

and it shouldn't work if you have cheats on. How will this be implemented story-line wise?

As KZ said he will be on the run so he needs a new identity but I think he needs the ID to get into something you know covert operations.

Well I guess just take out the pogram that does that for the change name thing.

I personally don't see it as a big deal. If someone wants to cheat that badly to become that powered up then it is fine by me. Although the aspect of changing your name might be more complicated then getting a fake I.D. as most main characters would still call you by your first name.

and if Craig is going to do as much voice acting as I imagined, it would make it quite difficult to make the game immersible (if no longer went with "Duvalier")

You know for those who cheat and I know this kind of destroys the point of cheating. It should be harder like the AI is stuck on brutal plus increased stats.

I'd like it but it's impossible for one reason: voice acting.

Every time the voice comes up with the name it would have to be computer I'd rather read the dialog.

Well, I'm sure CraigStern has something magical involving unicorns for the voice acting and chooseable name system, depending on how it works changeable name may be possible.

Instead of calling you by your First name: people can adress you as Duvalier and that's it

I guess that might work...

But what about Griffin? He's one of your closest friends.

if you did the name change then just make it so that your first or last name is set in stone and then you can change the other name to whatever you want.  or just make it so after the name change everyone calls you Mr. X or just X.  It could work very easily from my perspective.  Now granted almost everything is easier to say then do or else I would already be a billionaire of off the stock market :)

Why I think that "Mr. X" idea wouldn't work: a) Parents wouldn't name their child "X" or "Mr. X" b) If they did, the child would make up a name of his/her own for friends to call him/her c) If it were just to keep their name a mystery, the child would probably still reveal his/her name to his/her closest friend.

Either Craig can make a name up so you can't do a name. Hey that gave me another idea to insert a cheat at the beginning you need to press some key combination like 657 or SD for the password for the cheats.

Some people get called by their last name. Getting called Duvalier in the voice acting would work fine. Some of my friends call me by my last name, and I know its not uncommon.

when i said X i meant a variable, not a name.

So then they call you "Mr. Variable?" :D

Craig already addressed the issue of players having different first names for Duvalier- he mentioned that this part will be glossed over in the dialogue and people will call him Duvalier (then again, he can always make up stand-in words, depending on who is talking to Duvalier- like "sonny", "boy", etc).

In any case, it will be a neat addition to the game, even if the primary aspect is to get a "proper" name when using a cheat.

Arman should call him 'kid' as much as possible.

If people want to change names from a cheat to a proper name, that's fine with me.  Since there's no TRPG PvP, it really doesn't affect anyone else (except it makes walkthroughs easier, etc)

You know i'm not saying voice acting is bad I love the idea and usually helps the dialog to move faster (depending on how fast you read). But some dialog you just have to read so you can use your imagination. But games where dialog is going on while your fighting especially ones where you have to be alert and pressing buttons constantly you need voice acting.
