Title: Changing user names
Post by: KZ on September 04, 2010, 06:18:29 PM
Right, folks, I see that recently several of you have changed your usernames. In order to avoid confusion and possible headache for those new and old when referncing people's ideas and referring to prior posts, can you kindly post in this thread what your previous username was and what your current one is (in case you change it more than once).

Though some are obvious, some are less obvious than others, and it's best to keep track in all instances.
For example, methinks "Tastidian" became "Pink Panther", but I may be mistaken. "namelesskitty" became "the holy namelesskitty", still counts- after all, there were some very similar usernames back in the day.

Thus, would the current "Duckling" like to start things off?

Hi! I used to be algebra17, and I may be changing back after a while, but maybe not if I like it this way.

I noticed that Duskling's sig picture was inverted, so I flipped it to see what it was like. I liked it, so I decided to have a bit of fun.

Cheers, x-algebra17!
As an afterthought- why not also give reasons for changing usernames- might be interesting for us to know ;)

Title: name changes
Post by: Xemadus Echina on September 05, 2010, 01:34:00 PM
Hello.  As of late I have been confused by the influx of name changes so I decided that it would be a good idea for everybody to compile a timeline of names.  Basically what this means the following.  Bob signed up as Rage.  Eventually he changed his name to Pride.  Once again he changed his name to goldfish and now his name is yellowpolkadotedtank.  This is what he would put here.
1)Rage
2)Pride
3)goldfish
current:yellowpolkadotedtank

my name has and always will be: Rainen.

There is already a thread for this. I'll post the link.

Edit: A few hours later, I merged the topics. Ert.

I moved the discussion about the Duckling sig (http://sinisterdesign.net/forum/index.php?topic=668.msg20242#msg20242) to keep this place tidy.
After that, I merged this topic with the former name changes topic.

And I think there isn't the need to post that your name is still the same! ;)
However, I found that the suggestion of name chronology that rainen gave is quite nice to follow.

Thanks, Ert!
Indeed, the recent name change and the spur of activity in the suggestions thread makes this a very painful process for me, as I am currently trying to keep track of who is voting for what.

In any case, this thread is for those who change their name, and as Ert put it- no need to post here otherwise. ;)

PS
merged double post above

With the moderators gone, you seem to be repeating old behaviors.  FYI, Craig can still ban people.

Er... Alright my first name was telepathfan2 which someone said was lame. 2nd one Giga143 which made no sense at all and is actually meaningless. Current one: The Grotesquery which received some positive feedback. So there you go!

Through the miracle total randomness of evolution, the one formerly known as Bugfartboy has become Pum-kin.
I crossed out miracle because if you take evolution as true, there are no miracles and we are just desendents of fish and a single called organism that somehow formed from a bunch of chemicals that somehow met and joined to form life in a way that is so improbable that it hasn't been seem since. Now, isn't it likely that a farting bugboy could become a pumpkin named Pum-kin overnight?
Title: Re: Changing user names
Post by: ArtDrake on December 25, 2010, 01:15:59 AM
No. It's not likely. Did Bugfartboy die after giving birth to a Pum-Kin, which came out of his womb looking very blue, because Pum-kins' respiratory system is different from that of a Bugfatboy, and could not gain much oxygen from Buggy. Congratulations, dead Bug! You're a mother!

Actually, it has been seen since, and there are large macromolecules called "proteins" that group together into working organelles every once in a rare while (about once in 10 days), which in turn are surrounded by a bunch of fats and proteins grouped together in a naturally forming item called a "lipid bilayer" rarely (about every 100 years or so). Most of the time, these new cells that show up are totally outcompeted by the life we have around here today.

Which is why we don't seem to see evolution in progress today; a fish won't turn into a frog, because in it's half-frog stage of evolution, it's going to be a sucky fish, and an even suckier frog, and the frogs that have had millions of years to perfect being frogs kick their arse.

After the first cell, any further life generated from random interactions was redundant, and the species which had had a chance to adapt remained dominant.

None of this happens overnight, but it happens a lot faster than you would think. It only takes a few hunred million years to get self-replicating organic molecules, and only one more billion years to get a cell. Then, a couple of billion years to get multi-cellular life to occur, gradually working its way up from symbiotic relationships, to dependency, to mutual reproduction. After that, it just takes off like an increadibly slow rocket!

Don't be so rude. It is silly when you change your name so often. Its fine to change your picture and your signature, but there is honestly no reason to change your name more than once or twice. Im glad this thread is here, or I would honestly be totally lost. I have to go by post count/voice to tell at this point.

Yeah, if you feel the need to change your username once, especially for the sake of having a name you use more often, there's no issue with that.

I changed my name once, but all I did was capitalize the W so people wouldn't call me mikew.

Yup, that's been really effective, mikew.

By the way, I prefered Fyre to bugfartboy, and Kivatti to Kaseke.

I thought it was time for a change.

I liked "im2smart4u", because it was comically smug and allowed me to use numbers as words.

The new name is "SmartyPants". It isn't a drastic change from the old name, so I hope you guys get use to it quickly.  I chose SmartyPants, because I find it funny to have name that make me sound pridefully rude and/or smug.

Just for the record, you were Rainen, right? (Or have you borrowed his avatar?)

Why did you decided to change names (3 people in 1 day).
Title: Re: Changing user names
Post by: Xemadus Echina on July 03, 2011, 04:26:58 PM
Yes I used to be Rainen.  I made my avi myself so it would be interesting if somebody actually did use it. It only exists in my photobucket outside of being used in avatars.

I really don't have a reason. This thread showed up in the "Show new replies to your posts." and I figured "eh why not I'll change it."

If you know me and you know what deus ex machina is then I'm sure you'll get a good chuckle out of my name choice though :P

I changed the name that I had for years for the first time.  I am not sure why that prompted some people to change their month old name for the fifth time.
Title: Re: Changing user names

Ooh, that. I didn't like the connotations associated with "Demon Duck." It sound entirely too malignant (sorry, Malignus), and I just don't view myself as a very spiteful, angry, negative person; I'd hate for others to view me that way.

Don't you dare say anything along the lines of "too late." But my name change listed here occured several days/weeks after the change happened, because I forgot to until prompted by the listing of SmartyPants' name change. That is all.
