Yes. Its a huge event, and all of England gets the day off as a national holiday.

Its important to the people, which makes it important. Even if they have no power or influence, they are a symbol to the people.

I find it rather outdated myself.

However, having someone who is not also English say the same makes me curiously uncomfortable.
